From the President
Dear Friends,
March came in like a bear with almost 7 inches of snow (WOW!), but finally it is warming up outside! With warm weather comes springtime and springtime in the Auxiliary means our “Serving Up a Cure” tennis tournament is just around the corner, March 21st. They have contacted us because they are looking for volunteers to work two-hour shifts. If you think you are interested in committing your time, please e-mail Monica Huff and make sure to let her know you are with the AACA. Even if you are unable to commit to work a shift, hopefully you can attend this fun event that benefits a worthy cause.
Specifics regarding Breastfest are as follows:
Athens’ BreastFest will be held Saturday, March 21st, at the Taylor Grady House, 634 Prince Ave.. The fundraiser for breast cancer research and breast health will benefit St. Mary’s Women’s Diagnostic Center. The musical line-up for the main event, which runs from 5:00pm to 11:00pm, will feature Kimberly Morgan, Carl Lindberg and Friends, Betsy Franck and the Bare Knuckle Band, The Granfalloons, and The Strawberry Flats. In addition to musical entertainment, ticket price includes food from Outback Steakhouse and other local eateries, wine and beer, silent auction, and raffle. Tickets for adults are $20 in advance, and $25 at the door. Kids are a suggested $5 donation. Family tickets are $50 in advance, and $60 at the door.
BreastFest also includes BreastFest Kids events from 3:00pm-5:00pm, including music from Marissa Mustard and Katie Downs, Gabriela Mejias Teal Vox, and Sara O’Brien, as well as face-painting, moon-bounce and other kids activities. A $5.00 donation per child is requested (with grown-ups free until 5:00).
Athens’ BreastFest was started ten years ago by UGA graduate and Athens musician Sara O’Brien, who held an event to honor her mother, Tyanna, who died from breast cancer. Since then, Sara and her four sisters have held BreastFests in Athens, Baltimore and New Jersey. Sara’s sister, Megan O’Brien Lewis, moved to Athens and has revived BreastFest in Athens. Last year’s Athens event raised $7500.00 for St. Mary’s breast health programs.
Enjoy this warm weather while it last! Hope to see you all very soon!
Best,
Kathryn Rodrigue, President

Relay for Life Update
Right now, we have been asked to help out with the luminary tent the Clarke Relays (we are still waiting hear about the Oconee Relay). Luminaries offer people the opportunity to remember loved ones who have lost their lives to cancer and honor those who have won their battle. We will be both selling luminaries and getting new luminaries ready. It’s a great opportunity to support a wonderful cancer cause in our own community and spend time with our own Auxiliary members!
Please mark your calendar of the following dates. We need 4-6 people per hour shift and will send a sign-up sheet around at our March general meeting. If you will not be at the meeting, but would like to sign-up to help, please email Becky or Stacy (We hope to let you know what we’ll be doing for the Oconee Relay very soon). Thanks for your support!
