FROM THE PRESIDENT
Dear Friends,
We had a fabulous August in the Auxiliary. I would like to especially thank Sarah Schmitt for hosting a wonderful new member meeting at her beautiful home. We have 14 news members! I can’t wait for everyone to meet them and help them jump right into the Auxiliary.
September is a busy month and we have lots to celebrate! At our end of the year meeting this past May the sustainers donated two garden benches and plaques in honor of our Founding Members. One bench will be at ARMC and the other at St. Mary’s. The bench at ARMC has arrived and is being installed in the Mediation Garden. On Wednesday, September 10th at 2:30pm at the The Loran Smith Center we will have the dedication and small get-together. Thank you sustainers! What a wonderful way to honor and celebrate our Founding Members!
Hopefully by now you have all heard about “Auxiliary Night at Allen’s”. This is a fun and easy way for us to make a little extra money. Think about planning a “Girls Night Out” or bring your boyfriend, spouse or children and grab a burger and a beer and 10% of the proceeds come right back to the Auxiliary! What could be better than not having to cook and getting to hang out with friends?! I hope to see you all at Allen’s on Monday, September 15th.
Our General Meeting is Thursday, September 18th at 6pm and will be held at Athens Country Club. We will have a delicious dinner full of antioxidants and the cost is $25. I am very excited to announce our speaker will be Andree Terry, owner of “Andree’s Essential Soaps” and a former member of the Auxiliary. Andree’s business was created out of necessity: to provide gentle cleansing with healthy natural cosmetics for her mother’s dry, sensitive skin. After being treated for cancer, Parkinson’s, and glaucoma, her mother’s skin became easily irritated by the over-the-counter detergent, animal fat, petroleum-based soaps and moisturizers. In 2004 Andree was also diagnosed with cancer and now has firsthand experience with skin changes that can occur during chemotherapy and radiation treatment. I hope you can all join us of the 18th to hear
Andree’s story.
Our Special Funds, Fall Event and Silent Auction committees are busy planning for “Dancing on the Lawn” on October 17th and I know all the “In Their Shoes” walkers are hard at work raising money and training form their 13.1 mile walk in November! Whew, I’m tired just thinking about all this fun stuff!
Please read on to find out what else is going on in the Auxiliary and how you can become more involved.
Thank you for your continued support of our Auxiliary!
Best,
Kathryn

IN THEIR SHOES UPDATE
Have you been touched by a loved one, friend, or co-worker that has battled cancer? If so, let the AACA In Their Shoes team walk to remember and honor them. A theme of the walk is “Who will you walk for?” – so we want to show all, who we are walking for!
For $25.00, their name will be listed on the back of the AACA Team t-shirt for all to see. The t-shirt design will have the In Their Shoes logo and date on the front, then on the back it will state “AACA Team Walks to Remember and Honor” – with all of the names we receive listed underneath.
If you are interested in placing a name on the t-shirt, complete a form – available at our September 18 general meeting, or from Becky Holt and Stacy Tarver by September 26th, along with a check made out to: Athens Regional Foundation. In the check memo line, please write “For AACA Team”.
We truly appreciate your support!
Here’s another way to show your support for Team AACA! We have “In Their Shoes” Yard Signs available for $30 ($25 for the sign and a $5 team donation). Contact our walkers for more information! Signs will also be available at the next general meeting on September 18.
