From the President
Athens Area Cancer Auxiliary, You Just Do It!
Nike’s “Just Do It!” slogan was created during a 1988 meeting when a consultant reportedly complimented the Nike team for its always-positive, can-do attitude, saying “You Nike guys, you just do it.” While the slogan is not a typical advertising brand line, it is immediately recognizable and motivates the viewer to take action, whether it be running or hiking.
Making “Just Do It!” the AACA focus for this year seemed appropriate because we all are passionate about fighting cancer – and as a group, we can take action and make a difference in our community.
The Cancer Auxiliary has many exciting opportunities for you to “Just Do It!” over the summer, and I hope you will participate in a few of them. First, bring a friend to our July 16th meeting. Stacy Tarver and Kasay Rabon set a goal of introducing AACA to 41 new members in this, our 41st year. Please help us reach this goal.
Second, sign up for a service project, such as driving a patient through Road to Recovery, dropping-off food at Northeast GA Cancer Care, or participating with Camp Sunshine. Each member must complete 20 hours of community service – so let’s just do it!
Finally, buy your tickets for the “fall” fundraising event at our July meeting. After dinner and an exciting silent auction, we will rock the night away to Sounds of Motown on August 20th!
Thank you for all you do individually in the fight against cancer. Together, we will help find a cure for this disease – together, we can “Just Do It!”
—Alison

AACA Sponsors
We need your help to meet AACA’s sponsorship goals. Please ask your business to be a 2009-2010 sponsor! We will be providing numerous advertising opportunities for our sponsors this year to help them get the most bang for their investment – and we would love to include your business in our promotions. Below you can download a document with the sponsorship levels. Amy Chisholm has sent out letters to numerous businesses and continues to look for more opportunities, so please contact her with any suggestions you might have. In-kind sponsorship options are also available.

June Volunteer Opportunities
Below you will find information on volunteer opportunities through Camp Sunshine, working directly with kids who participate in their summer or hospital camps. Though there is a drive involved, I feel certain what you gain from the experience will far outweigh the travel. (By the way, Rutledge, GA is only about 45 minutes away from Athens). Plus, we’d like to help set-up carpools for these events. For planning purposes, the Camp Sunshine coordinators would like to know if you can volunteer as soon as possible.
The second link for download is about a way we can help The Cancer Foundation of Northeast Georgia & Northeast Georgia Cancer Care, LLC celebrate local cancer survivors during the month of June. Please sign-up to bring an item!
